What it's about: Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?
Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.
If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make.
The ending is the most important part: The ending was perfect; it ended exactly how I wanted it to. There was crying.
Last word: What a lovely, heartbreaking story.
Spoilers after the jump
Before I read this book, I thought it was about cancer. After reading The Fault in our Stars, I was feeling brave enough to read another YA book involving cancer. Fortunately for me, this book is not about cancer.
This was a good pallet-cleanser after all the dystopian I had been reading - it was good to be in the good old present day.
I very much wanted Mia to stay, and I was so very glad she did.
When Kim said, "You still have a family", I started sobbing. So true. So very true.
