All I Wanted was a Pepsi, Just One Pepsi...

So.

I’m going to talk about suicide.

If this is a trigger for you feel free to move on, and accept my apology for the trigger, the last thing I want ever is to negatively affect a person.

As an introvert, I take things internally and they roll around and around in my brain as I process them and it takes a long time for me to put what I’m feeling into words. I have been distraught and in anguish trying to comprehend my thoughts and feelings and cannot fully let them go until I’ve put them in order in my brain and can express them adequately. This is me getting the things that have been bouncing around in my brain out of my brain so that I don’t go insane.

Last week, a member of our wonderful Utah cosplay family took his life. I am grief stricken for our community; especially for those that I care about that cared about him and are deeply affected by this loss. Unfortunately, I did not know him but I still feel the void in our community because of it, and I am so sorry for those that loved him that were left behind.

I have had people I care about choose to take their life, and I myself attempted suicide when I was sixteen, so I know both sides; I know what it is to grieve, and I know what it is to feel like I no longer deserve to exist.

I’m going to get into how one feels when they are in that deep, dark abyss and want to end it all. This is a paralyzing gloom. It is the darkest of feelings. This is the blackest of black moods. When I have been in this place, and I have felt like this several times in my life – I did not see the light after my failure at my attempt and my life has been perfect and roses since - so when I have been in this place, I have felt that I am worth nothing. That the world would be a better place without me. That I should never have existed and I most definitely should not exist now. The mental pain is excruciating and numbing all at the same time. My brain shuts down and it is impossible to do anything to heal myself. The self-talk is horrendous. The worst thing is that because I truly believe that the world would be better off without me, and that I never should have existed, the thought to reach out for help never occurs to me. When my brain becomes this numb and dysfunctional, it is impossible to reach out.

I’m sorry if I offend anyone by saying this, but the words “feel free to reach out to me at any time” are worth nothing to a person who is suffering with suicidal tendencies. They are in the deepest darkest of places and are incapable of reaching out. There is nothing that they can do because they are frozen in despair. They are drowning. It is important for us to pay attention to the people we care about. It can be difficult when people cocoon and push others away and just need to be in their cave. I am one of those people, but sometimes when I’m in my cave it is because I am desperately lonely, yet incapable of putting my feelings into some sort of comprehensive communication and all it takes is a “r u o k?” text, or chicken and salad, or a silly meme on my wall with a “saw this thought of you” comment, or a hug to pull me out. I’m not saying this is on you, but if you want to know what you can do, this is something you can do. Telling someone who is suffering, drowning, and sinking to reach out any time can sound like nothing but lip service. It is extremely difficult to ask for help when you do not feel like you deserve to breathe, let alone have someone come to your aid.

I want those who are grieving to know that this is not your fault. He was in the deepest and darkest of places, and the fact that you didn’t know is NOT your fault (regardless of what I just said). Sometimes we hurt and we can’t get out of it and no one else can help either. We feel like this is the end and it should be the end and there’s nothing else to be done but to end it all. We are without hope. And we leave. We do this because there is nothing left inside of us, and no external stimulation can fix that. Suicide, unfortunately, is not one hundred percent preventable.

If you are feeling the blackest of blues, are considering leaving this existence, and you are reading this: Please. STAY. You are worth the air you breathe. You are loved. Take a deep breath, hydrate, do something that makes you breathe hard and your blood flow, look outside, GO outside, listen to music. You deserve to exist. You are important. I’m sorry you feel this way, I know how you feel, and if you want to talk, comment. I’m here. (if you’re local and you need a hug, PM me your address, I’ll be right there, I also have excellently absorbent shoulders)

These are the things that have been bouncing around in my head since last week. It’s been difficult for me because whenever I hear of a person taking their life, all the feelings that I had when I wanted to end it all come flooding back to me; I know how that person felt and I feel all the hurt all over again. I also know how hard it is on the ones that were left behind and I hurt for them too.

I love you.

Loving - My family unit.

Reading - A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. It's taking me a long time to read, but just because of life, not because I'm not enjoying it. Francie Nolan has become one of my favourite characters.

Watching - Pretty Little Liars. Still. That's okay because I don't have time for anything else.

Anticipating - The school year. I have a feeling it's going to be a good one. I hope I'm right.

Listening - You Know What I Mean by Cults. It has an old 50s drive-in swoony end of summer feel. It's just right.

Planning - Nothing and everything. I'm feeling overwhelmed with my to-do list and my want-to-do list. They are having a war and no one is winning.

Working on - Getting organized.

Currently - April

Loving - The popcorn trees and yoga.

Reading - Admission by Jean Hanff Korelitz. Yes, it's the one the movie with Tina Fey and Paul Rudd is based on. No, I haven't seen the movie. Yes, I will finish the book before I see it. No, I'm not liking the book - it's taking too long to read.

Watching - New Girl. I know that Dancing With the Stars is on, but I don't have time and the friend at work that I used to rehash it with no longer works with me, so I have no one to discuss it with so I'm not watching. It's just clogging up my DVR. Another thing clogging up my DVR is The Good Wife. I almost deleted them off without watching, but had some time after yoga last night and needed to fold some laundry so I watched an episode, and AIN'T NO WAY I'M GETTING RID OF THE GOOD WIFE!! I'm just going to have to make time. Also, Mad Men has started up and I don't have time for it. I'm debating just not recording it, but I might die. And another thing - I still haven't finished Downton Abbey. I should really get on that.

Anticipating - My trip to Hawaii with my brother and his family. I am having so much anxiety about this and I totally shouldn't, but I do. Also, summer and Lagoon.

Listening - The Perks of Being a Wallflower soundtrack. On repeat. Constantly. Listening to it right now as a matter of fact.

Planning - Spring Garage Sale, and Summer.

Working on - Getting my house clean so that I can focus on getting my garage clean and my yard pretty.

Currently - March

Loving - My boys, my Man, my dog, the fact that I can see my grass in the front yard, that I'm not wearing pantyhose to work, my turquoise toes, shaved legs, and wearing flip flops to Costco.

Reading - Nothing. Taking a break. I read a lot of good books this last month and it was starting to take away from my life - I was escaping. I have decided to take a break to read my scriptures more regularly and to write.

Watching - Nothing. Only have one more episode of Downton to go, but Huey and I are watching it together so I have to wait until he's finished with his English assignment and until we're in the same room at the same time for more than five minutes. DH is dying because he wants to discuss it with me but I refuse to have any spoilers.

Anticipating - Oahu!! I'm going with my brother, sister-in-law, niece and nephew. I'm actually looking forward to the 5 hour flight all to myself. I love to travel by myself! I'm also looking forward to getting to know my cute niece and nephew both of whom I've only met once. Plus, you know, HAWAII!!

Listening - Siouxie and the Banshees. Especially The Passenger. I love, love, love me some Siouxie Sioux!!

Planning - My trip to Hawaii, home improvement projects for Spring/Summer, the end of the school year.

Working on - Relaxing my anxieties, getting things in the house organized, being consistent.

Currently - February

Loving - The springlike weather. The snow melting. Being able to see grass in my backyard. That when I go to yoga I don't feel like I'm going to die the next day.

Reading - Dragondrums by Anne McAffrey. The third in the Harper Hall series. They're good, but they're not my favourite. I haven't had much time for reading, otherwise I think I could have burned through these books a lot faster. Huey really likes them and has moved on to the Dragon Rider series by Anne McAffrey. Still on The Goblet of Fire with Dewey, but we only have one more chapter to go!

Watching - Nothing. Haven't had time, so I'm seriously behind on Downton Abbey don't tell me what happens. I have watched a few movies over and over and over that I highly recommend: Pitch Perfect and Perks of Being a Wallflower. DH and I went and saw Silver Linings Playbook in the theatre and that was really good too.

Anticipating - Spring showers and spring flowers, and my meeting with my doctor after all my test results are in.

Listening - To Rick Springfield. He is the answer to everything.

Planning - Pack Meeting. I so wish this was a much less boring answer.

Working on - getting the house pretty, selling the house in Emery, cleaning the garage, and sewing something.

Currently – January

Loving: Having DH home in the evenings!! So much! I love having him around more and he seems so much happier.

Reading: Dragonsong  by Anne McCaffrey. This was a recommendation from Huey. I’m having a problem getting into it, but I have faith as I’ve talked to some other folks and they have high praise for Anne McCaffrey’s books. I haven’t been able to read in bed due to DH’s new schedule; he’s in bed trying to sleep, so I can’t be in there with the light on. Once his sleep schedule is adjusted, I’ll be able to do that, but for now, I just haven’t been reading.
Also You Can’t Make Me (but I can be persuaded) Strategies for Bringing Out the Best in Your Strong-Willed Child by Cynthia Ulrich Tobias. I read about this book in Scouting magazine. I’m hoping it will help me communicate not just with Huey, but with DH too. They’re like twins with their personalities and I can’t get either of them to do anything I ask. I’m kinda strong-willed too, so maybe it will help me too. I’ll let you know.
I'm also reading Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire with Dewey. I love that he loves reading now.

Watching: Downton Abbey and nothing else. You should be too.

Anticipating: The Oscars, Sundance, and the end of the month.

Listening: to my iPod on shuffle – looking for inspiration for some new playlists. I got some new music for Christmas, so I’m listening to everything.

Planning: decorating schemes to make my house more pretty.

Working on: getting the garage cleaned out and the craft room organized, staying away from fast food and caffeine, and getting some exercise.
